Overcome symptoms of emotional trauma with counselling psychotherapy

Therapies based on the Wirral, Merseyside with Stephanie Edwards

As a survivor of abuse, you might have developed long-term symptoms such as PTSD, suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, self-harm, low self-esteem, body dysphoria, eating disorders, alcohol and drug misuse or sleep problems.

These harmful symptoms can surface at any time whether the abuse occurred recently or during childhood and will, unfortunately, have a detrimental effect on the quality of your life if left untreated.

While the symptoms mentioned above are incredibly challenging, I’ve worked with survivors of extreme emotional trauma (including rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence) for many years and I wholeheartedly believe we all move past trauma and heal.

In my private practice, I offer four therapies that I know to bring significant change to my clients.

These therapies are EMDR, CBT, clay therapy and a person-centred approach to counselling.

Location and Cost

All of these treatments take place at Hoylake Holistics, located on the Wirral, Merseyside

During our first session, we’ll work together to get to know each other, and we’ll decide together which therapy plan will work best for you. The cost for your first session is £45; subsequent sessions are £45-£60 depending on individual requirements.

Therapies Offered

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a form of psychotherapy that enables people who are suffering from emotional distress to heal more quickly. This therapy works by focusing on past disturbing memories in a controlled environment together with your therapist.

During our first EMDR session, I’ll assess your needs and create a bespoke package to suit you. This package could involve anything from six to twenty sessions, depending on the nature of the disturbance.

Session duration: 55 – 90 minutes

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a talking therapy that aims to change the way you process your thoughts. It is based on the assumption that the problems we face are a result of negative thinking patterns. I’ll help you identify any negative thoughts you have and give you exercises that will help you move past your problems.

Session duration: 55 minutes

Clay Therapy

Clay therapy is a form of art therapy that allows for the exploration of emotions that might otherwise be suppressed. This form of treatment is excellent for anxiety and depression and is practised one-on-one with me. All sessions and artwork are confidential.

Session duration: 55 – 90 minutes

Person-Centred Approach

Person-centred counselling psychotherapy aims to meet you where you’re currently at and help you find solutions to your own problems. Because I’ve experienced some of the difficulties you’re facing, I can understand some of the emotions you’re experiencing. I’ll be there to guide and support you along your journey to recovery.

Session duration: 55 minutes

You might be wondering if I can really help you; you might feel nervous or anxious, but please don’t feel alone. I have over twenty years of experience helping people just like you; I promise you’re not alone.

Life can, and will, get better.
